Continuing our coverage on ink adhesion primers and promoters, here we include more information on available products for inkjet printing.
LogoJET sells a UV adhesion promoter in a 250 milliliter bottle for $74.99. It is ideal for helping print to non-porous substrates like rubber, glass, ceramic, and metal. The company suggests applying with a lint-free wipe on cloth.
Marabu North America LP MaraShield UV-PGL features a silicone-free inkjet layer that is used for UV inkjet inks that fail to adhere properly to challenging substrates like glass. It is a translucent, two-component primer that also offers resistance to abrasion, chemicals, and graffiti.
Michelman Inc. address adhesion on paper substrates with its JetPrime UV 100. It is suited for wine labels, coated and uncoated paper, and direct thermal paper printed with UV inkjet devices. In addition to improving adhesion, the primer improves hold out, reduces bleed and mottle, and makes colors more vibrant.
Nazdar Ink Technologies’ Nazdar 7020 Adhesion Promoter or LWU7020NC is specially formulated as a primer to improve the adhesion of Nazdar UV-curable digital inks to substrates such as polypropylene and acrylic. It is designed to be used a wipe on primer. The company suggests allowing the primer to dry for ten minutes—depending on humidity levels—prior to printing.
Released in September 2017, Sun Chemical Corporation offers SunEvo Primus, part of its SunEvo Digital Coatings portfolio. It is a range of primers promoting adhesion to substrates, supporting the pigment on the substrate, all while enhancing printability and resolution of digital inks.
Supply55, Inc. offers AP2155, released in 2014. It is compatible with Coroplast, polystyrene, PVC, and HDPE and improves adhesion, eliminates static, and removes fingerprints. AP2155 is available for $59.96 per liter. Supply55 also offers AP3155 for acrylics, aluminum, glass, HDPE, metal, and polystyrene. Michael Pender, president, Supply55, says AP3155 improves adhesion when printing to substrates like granite, brass, and ceramics. It’s available for $99.95 per liter.
The Mosaica Group offers the TMG-UVAP3155 adhesion promoter compatible with glass, polycarbonate, coroplast, untreated metals, and head plastics. According to Mark Six, technical product manager, wide format solutions, The Mosaica Group, TMG-UVAP3155 is tried, tested, and preferred by many customers. It is available for $99.
