Maintaining the correct humidity in a print environment is achieved with a humidification system. In the corrugated printing space, the correct level of humidity is important for a number of reasons.
These include maintaining a dimensionally stable substrate and allowing ink to absorb properly and more uniformly. A humidification system can also help with static electricity and has a positive influence on workers’ health. We touch on these topics in more detail in our September column on the same topic.
Here, we share some standout humification systems available for those digitally printing to corrugated.
Carel U.S.A., Inc.
Carel, with 40 years of experience, offers a range of steam or adiabatic humidifiers. The adiabatic systems, in particular, control humidity and cool the air at the same time, ensuring minimum energy consumption. They operate by atomizing water into millions of tiny droplets that evaporate spontaneously absorbing heat from the air, which consequently cools down. This technology is particularly effective in applications in the printing industry, where the machines produce a lot of heat. Also, they are energy saving systems, which use just 4W of power per liter of water atomized, approximately one percent of the power used by a common steam humidifier.
Condair Inc.
Condair offers a comprehensive product range of products to meet printers’ needs. It has a full service of expert advice, design, supply, installation, commissioning, maintenance, and spare parts. Products are available as isothermal or adiabatic systems.
DriSteem
DriSteem’s Adiatec high-pressure system is designed to offer both evaporative cooling and humidification for multiple zones. This system allows for the customization of humidity levels in different areas, providing precise control and comfort throughout the entire space. By offering tailored humidity control, the Adiatec high-pressure system ensures that each zone within a print shop or other facility can maintain optimal conditions suited to its specific needs, enhancing overall environmental stability and employee well being.
The Adiatec high-pressure system uses DriSteem’s Vapor-logic controller to monitor multiple conditions to modulate and control nozzle operation. This optimizes absorption and minimizes water waste. The Adiatec high-pressure system is compatible with multiple building management systems via Modbus and optional BACnet or LonTalk protocols for tight control and quick response time.
FinestFog
FinestFog has been producing high-pressure humidification systems since 2002, and reverse osmosis systems have also been manufactured since 2006. FinestFog installations are always carried out by in-house technicians who also provide professional service for maintenance and troubleshooting after the installation.
Humidifirst
Humidifirst manufactures ultrasonic humidifiers. Humidifirst’s patented Mist-Free series of ultrasonic humidifiers are mist free. They are ideal for humidification needs where visible mist is objectionable, such as laboratories, small hospital equipment rooms, computer rooms, office areas, and low ceiling printing rooms.
The Mist Free ultrasonic humidifier is turnkey ready. It arrives factory assembled on lockable castors, which makes it easy to roll into place. A 120v power cord, compression water line fitting, and built-in digital humidistat make for a simple setup and operation.
The Mist Free 10 and Mist Free 20 are mist-less up to 40 percent relative humidity with only minimal mist at 50 percent. As a result, they can be located near equipment with little risk of wetting. The lockable castors also allow them to be quickly and easily relocated or removed from the room for service.
Hydrofogger, LLC
Hydrofogger has sold to commercial printers since 2005. It offers affordability, ease in installation, and overall simple operation, which means a long lifetime of service.
Merlin Technology
Merlin offers customized humidification solutions in the print space. All Merlin humidification systems are designed to be integrated into existing climate systems as well as to be implemented as standalone solutions.
Smart Fog
According to the company, the signature ES100 is the market’s most efficient solution for direct space humidification. Trusted by industry leaders, this in-room solution converts any setting into a highly controlled environment, no maintenance required.
TS100 integrates self-evaporative technology into new constructions and existing duct systems. Eliminate the need for droplet screens, drain pans, and evaporation chambers while creating precise humidity throughout.
The ES100M puts all the benefits of its signature ES100 on wheels. This energy-efficient, plug–and-play humidity solution creates the ideal amount of humidity anywhere.
Important Piece
Humidification systems are an important piece of the print production puzzle. They help to assure successful output every time.
