When it comes to direct to object (DTO) printing, UV printing and curing technologies offer versatility and value. In addition to a variety of compatible materials supported by UV printing—with or without primers—the technology is known for its precision and color vibrancy.
The September issue of Industrial Print magazine offers a deep dive into the possibilities of UV DTO printing and curing and part one of this web series looks more into specialty finishes and effects. Here we highlight key technologies in the space.
Excelitas Technologies Corp.
Phoseon FireEdge air-cooled UV LED curing systems are ideally suited for pinning applications for digital inkjet printing.
Phoseon FireJet air-cooled and FireLine water-cooled UV LED curing systems offer high peak irradiance designed for full-cure digital inkjet applications such as direct printing.
Semray UV4203 is a high-power, air-cooled LED system offering the flexibility to support a variety of applications like direct printing.
Innovative Digital Systems (IDS)
IDS sells, services, and supports UV flatbed and rotary printers, plus multiple flame treatment systems.
Inkcups
Inkcups is a supplier and manufacturer of digital inkjet printing equipment, including three different types of UV inkjet printers—flatbed, conveyorized, and cylindrical.
IST America
IST America has extensive experience in the application of UV-curing technologies. Its expertise lies in understanding the specific energy requirements of different media and how to deliver that energy effectively to achieve optimal curing. This includes addressing the complexities of three-dimensional curing, which is often necessary in DTO applications. “By leveraging our deep knowledge and advanced technologies, we help clients achieve superior print quality, enhanced durability, and a range of special effects on various substrates,” says Chris Davis, head of sales, web and industrial, IST America.
INX International Ink Co.
INX fits into the UV DTO printing space in many ways. “We designed several early DTO printing systems and have a patent on helical printing used for bottles and other cylinders. We work with integrators to achieve their printer design goals, and develop inks and coatings for specific applications in the DTO field,” explains Paul Edwards, VP – Digital Division, INX.
Mimaki USA, Inc.
Mimaki USA is a leader in the UV-curing and DTO printing market, known for the creation of the UV-LED tabletop digital DTO market, its innovative technology, and high-quality printers.
The Mimaki UJF Series printers are designed to offer versatility, precision, and exceptional print quality. “Our printers stand out due to their advanced ink options, including opaque whites, clear inks for special effects, and printed primers for enhanced adhesion. Mimaki’s commitment to research and development ensures that we continuously provide cutting-edge solutions that meet the evolving needs of various industries,” says Hugo Gonzalez, senior segment specialist, industrial products, Mimaki USA.
Valloy Inc.
Under development at Valloy is an entry-level, single-pass UV inkjet module, SNAPZET BAR UV. “We can connect conveyor station or roll-to-roll station to have white, CMYK, and varnish printing as well as foiling,” says Juan Kim, CEO, Valloy.
