Spare parts production is an ideal use case for additive manufacturing (AM). The September issue of Industrial Print magazine discusses the major industries turning to AM for spare parts production and more importantly why.
Here we check in and share notable products in those companies’ portfolios that meet needs like reducing inventory costs, minimizing downtime, and supporting aging equipment.
EOS
Designed for industrial applications, the EOS M 300 Series offers multiple configuration options combined with safety and security features enabling digital AM. The platform offers the flexibility to choose the degree of automation that best suits your needs for an optimized workflow as well as the option to easily ramp-up as demand increases. Four precise lasers expose in a 300×300 millimeters (mm) square with each laser covering the entire area.
HP
The HP Metal Jet S100 Platform includes S100D, S100P, and S100 configurations, all of which leverage binder jetting technology. The process enables higher productivity thanks to a layer by layer build process, which requires less processing and no support removal requires. Standing out from the competition, the printers are built with HP Thermal Inkjet printheads, which leverage intellectual property from HP Latex, allowing for the use of minimal binder agent—this yields thicker, larger mass parts.
JEOL USA, Inc.
In 2014, JEOL embarked on a journey into AM, culminating in the development of the JAM-5200EBM metal 3D printer. The JAM-5200EBM distinguishes itself through electron beam powder bed fusion (PBF) technology. Equipped with a 6 kW electron beam, the machine operates at speeds a thousand times faster than conventional lasers used in similar technologies. This speed and power advantage reduces production times and circumvents the need for several post-processing steps traditionally necessary in metal 3D printing, such as stress relief heat treatments and wire electrical discharge machining. The JAM-5200EBM’s electron emitting source has a lifetime of greater than 1,500 hours, the highest lifetime source in the election beam PBF market.
Mastrex
Built for industrial-scale production, the laser PBF (LPBF) MX400 offers an expansive 400x350x400 mm build chamber and four synchronized 500W lasers. With full-platform laser coverage and blazing fast build rates up to 140 cm³/h, this machine is designed to tackle batch production and large format parts with ease. A fully integrated powder loop handles sieving, de-powdering, and material recycling internally, reducing labor and improving safety.
Meltio
The Meltio M600 is an industrial metal 3D printer with a 300x400x600 mm print envelope. The printer enables efficient, accurate printing of metal tooling and real-world parts. Expand your manufacturing capabilities with blue lasers, a large build volume, and a fully inert chamber for the best material properties.
Nidec Machine Tool America
The LAMBDA200 is a laser powder directed energy deposition (DED) AM machine with three, four, or five CNC axes with a 200x200x200 mm work envelope. The printer can product parts up to two meters tall with a fine feature resolution due to the use of metal powder and focal diameter.
Nikon Advanced Manufacturing Inc.
Nikon AM pioneers digital manufacturing solutions for the aerospace and defense, automotive, aviation, energy sectors and beyond. It leverages more than a century of excellence in Nikon’s applied optics and precision technologies alongside a global footprint, relentless commitment, and proven ability to scale. Nikon delivers holistic end-to-end AM solutions encompassing ultra-large format LPBF systems from its Nikon SLM Solutions unit, as well as engineering and manufacturing services from its Nikon AM Synergy division, and advanced x-ray and CT inspection systems from Nikon Metrology. It also provides advanced Nikon scanners and DED systems for AM repair applications.
Wayland Additive
Wayland’s NeuBeam technology differs from traditional electron beam systems, as it neutralizes the electron beam. While providing flexibility, it allows metallurgical requirements to be tailored to the application at hand. Calibur3 features the NeuBeam metal AM process, offering a 300x300x450 mm build volume.
