RAPID + TCT started May 17, 2022 at Huntington Place in Detroit, MI. The three day event focused on additive manufacturing (AM) with over 400 exhibitors on the show floor in addition to educational sessions and keynotes.
The opening day’s keynote was led by Barbara Humpton, president/CEO, Siemens USA. Humpton’s presentation touched on the role of AM in driving the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and Siemens’ work in digital twin technology enabling the success of NASA’s Mars 2020 Perseverance Rover.
Humpton also talked about “glocalization.” While global innovation is essential, there is a growing need to establish local production capabilities—accelerated by the response to COVID-19. AM enables localization of production, increasing resiliency, and inspiring a new generation of industry leaders.
On the Floor
Here are some highlights.
3D Systems displayed its new SLA 750 full AM workflow solution, which it formally introduced in April 2022. The solution is optimized for cost-effective stereolithography (SLA) batch part production at up to twice the speed and triple the throughput of other available SLA solutions. Additionally, the solution can be integrated into the factory floor through Oqton Manufacturing OS.
Digital Metal launched a new binder jet three-dimensional (3D) printing system targeting at high-volume manufacturing. The DMP/PRO series offers entirely new levels of productivity, accuracy, and versatility. Its metal binder jetting technology is controlled by custom software to enable volume production of everything from industrial components to medical and consumer products.
Essentium’s booth showcased the organization’s HSE 180 and 280i HT 3D printing platforms—each designed for industrial production environments.
Prior to RAPID + TCT, Farsoon launched its FS200Mx2 metal 3D printing platform in the AMEA and North American markets.
Formlabs added two new polyurethane (PU) materials products to its Engineering Resin portfolio. The PU Rigid 650 Resin and PU Rigid 1000 Resin are compatible with Formlabs’ Form 2, Form 3, Form 3+, Form 3B, and Form B+ SLA 3D printers.
Jabil launched PK 5000, an eco-friendly, powder-based additive material engineered to deliver improved strength, chemical resistance, and resilience. This patent-pending material supports highly demanding automotive, consumer electronics, defense, medical, and industrial manufacturing applications.
JEOL USA introduced the JEOL JAM-5200EBM, a new electron beam melting powder bed fusion machine that improves productivity, quality, and reliability to produce stronger and lighter parts for a variety of applications.
Meteor Inkjet Ltd. collaborated with Dyndrite to create Meteoryte, a 3D software tool that simplifies the development and adoption of inkjet technology for AM applications.
Prodways exhibited an industrial selective laser sintering 3D printer—the ProMaker P1000 S. It offers a 300x300x360-millimeter built platform, an advanced heating control for good thermal stability, 50+ adjustable parameters, and slicing-on-the-fly functionality to add parts during the printing process.
Stratasys demonstrated two new composite 3D printers—additions to its F123 Series, 16 new materials, and slew of software updates. The F190 CR and F370 CR 3D printers offer high stiffness and strength materials in a hardened machine ready for composite material printing. The new composite 3D printers are designed for manufacturers and industrial machinists to supplement traditional fabrication technologies with high-strength composite 3D printing. The printers help manufacturers produce end use parts faster and more cost effectively, and are ideal for jigs, fixtures, and workholding tools.
