Komori Corporation (Sumida-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Satoshi Mochida) is pleased to report progress made in the development of thin-film coating technologies in its Printed Electronics Business and the strengthening of its business framework.
Since the announcement this May, Komori has continued to drive technological innovation aimed at maximizing productivity for next-generation devices, including perovskite solar cells. In particular, we have focused on improving the precision of large-area, highly uniform ultra-thin film formation—an essential requirement for mass production. To this end, the Printed Electronics Elemental Technology Development Center (PEDEC) has expanded its test lines and continued validation of process conditions.
Key achievements include establishing a test environment equipped with a slit die coater and a combined NIR (near-infrared) and hot-air drying system, enabling verification of process conditions. We have also been evaluating a new transparent electrode patterning method that leverages printing technology to eliminate the need for laser scribing.
In addition, Komori is preparing to establish a new proprietary process that integrates Komori-developed roll coater technology with NIR drying. This initiative aims to further improve film-thickness uniformity and accelerate processing speeds.
PEDEC is also enhancing its capability to work with diverse materials and substrates, establishing a prototyping and evaluation system tailored to customer needs. This initiative is not limited to perovskite solar cells but also supports a wide range of applications—including flexible electronics, functional films, and new materials development. We are building capabilities to support these diverse needs and will offer the facility as an open-innovation platform for partner companies and research institutions.
Komori remains committed to accelerating the development and commercialization of thin-film coating technologies as we work toward a more sustainable society. We welcome inquiries regarding joint development and testing.
